This paper systematically reviews and analyzes empirical literature on paradox and sustainability, categorizing it into three streams: paradoxical tensions, paradoxical frame/thinking, and paradoxical actions/strategies.
It proposes a theoretical framework to interconnect these paradoxical meanings across different levels (individual, organizational, systems) and identifies key research gaps.
The overall study highlights the relevance of a clear understanding of paradox that can help business ethics scholars better evaluate corporate sustainability beyond instrumental views.
